Accompanying the show is a soundtrack provided by the band Attrition.                                                                              Throughout the nineties Mark Lomax worked as a freelance photographer/illustrator for the music industry.  It was during this time that he met Martin Bowes, singer and composer with the industrial and experimental rock band Attrition.

This was the start of a fruitful period for both parties, with Lomax producing covers and supporting artwork for a total of 11 albums and singles, in addition to publicity material for numerous European and American tours.

One of the albums from this body of work was the soundtrack CD Ephemera.

“I was recently browsing through my CD collection when I came across Ephemera by Attrition, I remember that at the time it differed from other pieces that I had done for the band, insofar that it didn’t feature my trademark photomontage work, but rather a series of photographs of shadows cast over concrete.  I was immediately struck by the resemblance to the book piece that I was working on for this exhibition (sticks and stones).

The title, ephemera, seemed like the perfect choice for the name of the show, and after re-acquainting myself with the music, I also felt that it would provide a suitable soundtrack to the work”

Mark Lomax. June 2008

Martin Bowes has kindly given his permission for the soundtrack to be used for the duration of the exhibition.

The Wire magazine described Ephemera as “a cutting-edge industrial masterpiece”

Attrition are still performing and have recently released a new album, “All mine enemys whispers”, the content of which will be part of a documentary for ITV3, to be broadcast in October 2008.

Further information concerning the band and the artwork produced by Mark Lomax can be found at www.Attrition.co.uk
